Do you want to know what makes artificial grass the best solution for drainage issues?

If you’re looking for the best drainage solution for your garden, you may have already heard that artificial grass is one of the most effective ways to solve drainage issues. But not everyone knows exactly why.

As an experienced artificial grass installer, I’ve installed many different drainage solutions over the years. Below, I’m going to tell you three main reasons why – in most cases – artificial grass beats them all.

1. Installation includes a full excavation of the existing surface

A reputable installer should remove the existing area and dig to a specific depth (depending on the severity of your drainage issues). They can then fit all the necessary layers required to construct a high quality, fully porous artificial grass system. More about that below.

2. Artificial grass is fully porous and permeable

Most high quality artificial grass installations should allow water to drain straight through the new system. This is because of all the drainage layers that have been installed beneath, including a fully porous sub-base.

3. Artificial grass dries much quicker than natural grass

Unlike real grass which can take a while to dry out, artificial grass dries much quicker. This ensures you’re not left with puddling, or muddy, soggy grass. You also won’t have to wait as long to use your garden after it rains!

What if your garden is on a slope?

The good thing about the excavation process mentioned above, is that if your lawn is on a slope, it can help to level your garden out. One of our customers contacted us, as their garden was on a slope and all the water was collecting in one area, causing damage and constant puddling.

We advised them that our installation process will include being able to level out the garden, before installing our fully permeable artificial grass system which would help to combat drainage issues. This meant their garden would be a more usable surface, and wouldn’t be on as much of a slope.

This turned out to be a great solution, as they’d previously been considering a paved area. This wouldn’t have been ideal, as they had young children who needed a safe, soft surface area to play on. The other option was paying for a drainage system and natural turf, plus all the maintenance that went along with it.

They decided artificial grass was the best solution for them, as it would be low-maintenance to accommodate their busy lifestyles. Plus, with a life expectancy of 15 – 20 years, it was going to be a worthwhile investment.

Advice from an experienced installer

Artificial grass can be a great solution to drainage woes. However, it’s always best to thoroughly do your homework on a company and ensuring they’ll guarantee you for both the product and workmanship before you agree to having any work carried out.

You should also check your chosen company’s installation procedure and ensure this is stated on their quotation. This is so you’ll know exactly what will be put in place to help solve your wet, muddy garden.

Conclusion

I hope you’re enjoyed reading. The above three reasons make artificial grass, in my opinion, the best solution for drainage issues. It can even solve the issue of your garden being on a slope!
