Are you wondering whether you can install artificial grass indoors?
The answer is yes! There’s nothing to stop you installing artificial grass in your home – or in a variety of other places! It’s actually very popular, so let your imagination run wild.
Perhaps you’re looking for a quirky play area or office space – or a nice area for your pets.
Below, I’m going to tell you more about the various uses of artificial grass indoors, and what a typical installation involves.
Why choose to install artificial grass indoors?
Homeowners are increasingly opting for fake grass indoors as a way of bringing the outside in. It helps to create a quirky, unique space for their office, living room or even a nursery or play area for their children. In an office, it can also be ideal for creating your own putting green!
Restaurants and cafes use it to make their business stand out. Businesses have even reported an increase in productivity when used in an office/work environment, and it’s also completely pet-friendly, so an ideal way to brighten up indoor kennels!
We recently installed fake grass in one of our customers’ homes in Edinburgh. She was an artist and loved the idea of her home being different and quirky. We installed it going up the stairs and on the landing, which had a large open window where she displayed gym equipment.
It looked very cool and was definitely different – plus, the kids loved it!
Artificial grass is fully adaptable to both dry areas – such as living room or office – and damp spaces, such as bathrooms. In fact, we even know someone who has chosen the latter option, and it makes for a fabulously quirky and peaceful bathroom space!
There’s no limit to where you can install artificial grass, so you can afford to get creative.
What does an indoor artificial grass installation involve?
Artificial grass installations indoors are quite straightforward, as there’s no need for digging first. In most cases, the floor is already level.
Here’s how a typical indoor artificial grass installation would go. An artificial grass specialist or installer would:
- Prepare the area and ensure the floor is clean and clear of debris
- Install a shock pad layer (optional) to create a soft, safe, level surface
- Lay the artificial grass
- Secure all joins with glue
An indoor artificial grass installation costs roughly the same as an outdoor installation, just slightly less at around £45 – £55 + VAT per square metre. Even though there is no dig-out, but there may be the added cost of the shockpad layer if you choose that option. This is not usually included in the cost of outdoor installations.
TIP: Depending on where you choose to install artificial grass, you may not require a shockpad layer. Speak to your artificial grass specialist to see what they advise.
Advice from an artificial grass specialist
Unsure of whether or not to install artificial grass indoors? I say, go for it! It looks great, and with high quality artificial grass being so soft – with an added shockpad layer for cushioning – it is a great alternative to carpet. Your children and pets will love it, too!
We installed our artificial grass at Napier University for the Scottish Rugby training facility. They use it for running with weights, and this allows ease of movement for the weights. It doesn’t cause damage to the grass as it’s so hard-wearing.
The grass was a great alternative to rubber flooring, which wouldn’t have worked as well, as the weights are also rubber and would have left marks. It also looks brighter and more attractive than normal flooring, and brings the outside in for the players.
Conclusion
Want to install artificial grass indoors? There’s nothing stopping you. In fact, more and more people are choosing this as a quirky covering that can be applied to all types of situations, so why not get creative?
