Are you worried that your artificial grass might fade in the sun over time?
If you’re thinking of investing in artificial grass, you’ll want to be sure it looks its best for as long as possible. Many of our customers ask about whether their grass can fade in the sun – albeit it the very little we get in Scotland – over time, as it can be a big concern.
As an artificial grass specialist, let me explain more about artificial grass and its UV-resistant qualities below.
Why quality artificial grass won’t fade in the sun
The good news is that most modern artificial grass is protected against sunlight and UV rays. During the manufacturing process, the grass is UV stabilised. This protects it against fading. Artificial grass also goes through rigorous testing for colour fastness and UV resistance.
Your chosen artificial grass installer or specialist should provide a guarantee to ensure your grass won’t fade or discolour over time. After the guaranteed period, they won’t be able to promise that fading will not occur.
However, there is a caveat to this. Some brands of artificial grass (such as Easigrass) are UV-stabilised to resist fading by direct sunlight. Although we can’t speak for what happens after the guarantee, with our climate, there’s a good chance the grass will stay green for its entire lifespan (15 – 20 years).
Advice from an artificial grass specialist
With a good quality artificial grass, there should only be very minimal fading over the years. However, you should always check your grass comes with a guarantee against fading. This shouldn’t be a big worry, as in the UK we don’t tend to experience extreme weather like in warmer climates.
We expect our grass to last 15 – 20 years, and hopefully our customers do get this time from our investment. We can’t guarantee anything over the 8-year period, but so far, in over 8 years of installing artificial grass, we’ve never experienced any of our grasses fading.
NOTE: Artificial grass can fade if exposed to sunlight reflected from windows or shiny objects. It’s best to check when getting your grass installed that there are no potential hazards, and ensure no shiny objects are not reflecting sunlight onto your new lawn (so as to not melt the grass).
Conclusion
Worried your artificial grass might fade in the sun? Luckily, most high quality artificial grass products should come with a guarantee to ensure this won’t happen. Our own grass goes through rigorous testing to ensure it’s UV resistant and will not fade. Check your installer can provide this.
However, it’s wise to bear in mind that here in the UK, we don’t see a lot of extreme weather, and there’s a good chance your artificial grass may last its full 15 – 20 year lifespan.
